American Association for University Women (AAUW) is the largest and oldest national organization working for the advancement of women. Established in 1881 for the purpose of maintaining high standards in education. The Youngstown branch has been in existence since 1889, led by innovative and creative women working for equality.

Mission statement: The purpose of AAUW is to advance equality for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.

Legal Advocacy Fund: provides a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sexual discrimination

Educational Foundation: provides funds to advance education, research and self-development for women and to foster equality and positive societal change.

Diversity – AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership-there is no barriers to full participation in AAUW on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class.
